I’ve had a real fascination with Hexagons this month. I love the Hexagon patterns in both the February Collections. For my post today I have chosen the gorgeous Beach Shack Collection to use with a summer photo of my little boy at the beach.
We have spent a lot of time at the beach this summer. Probably more than we have any summer I can remember. Now that Billy is 16 months old he is an active little thing and I spend most of my days thinking of ways I can tire him and his big brother out! The beach is the perfect spot where they can run and use up lots of energy and they just adore playing in the sand and paddling in the water. This photo was taken one evening when we went for a spontaneous beach run and they both started off fully clothed and got wetter and wetter until finally Billy ended up naked on the sand…
To begin my Layout I fussy-cut all the hexagon shapes from the paper. This is often the way I will start a Layout when I am not sure what the end result will look like. I take a page for fussy-cutting and a pair of scissors and sit somewhere the boys are playing and cut. I find I can’t properly craft when Billy is awake because he finds me and gets into everything! But I can get away with a little fussy-cutting. After I cut out the Hexagons I felt that they would look nice with a bit of machine stitching so that is where my Process Video begins…

How to Create the Layout
The next step was glueing the Hexagons down in a pattern on the page.
This Layout turned out to be a very simple Layout that is certainly not complicated to re-create.
After glueing down the hexagon pattern I used one of the new Kaisercraft Decorative Dies to match this collection, DD808 Porthole:
I cut this from some soft blue paper and added it in to one side of my photo.
Then I added some Cheese Cloth to create a soft texture. I layered my photo over the top with some Foam Tape.
A few Collectables were perfect for embellishing with and a little Wooden Flourish.
I adore these little wooden fences. They look cute combined with the title for the Layout layered over the top.
FL618 – Beach
CT930 – Collectables
Finally I completed my Layout with a few splatters from some soft grey and white misting sprays.
This was quick and easy to put together, perfect for busy mums who would like to scrap some beachy photos.
I hope it provides you with a little inspiration,
Happy Crafting: )

I love this layout, nice and quick and gorgeous.
Thank you so much Gillian. It is good to do a quick layout every now and then…why slave over something if it goes together easily. The papers and the hexagon shapes did the work here. I didnt begin the Layout intending it to be quick and easy, but that was just the way it worked out.
